This page records the 4½p and 8p first day cover for the Isle of Man pictorial definitives. The stamps were issued on 8 January 1975 and are catalogued as SG 20, 26.[1]

These two new denominations extended the pictorial definitive series introduced in 1973. Both are inscribed “1975”.[1]

The stamps were printed by photogravure on unwatermarked granite paper, perforated 11½, in sheets of 50 (5 × 10). Printing (f) has matt, almost invisible gum.[1]

The illustrated reference establishes the cover design, stamp grouping and Douglas cancellation recorded above.[2]

General withdrawal of the stamps was on 31 December 1978. Withdrawal concerns stamp sales; the cited entry does not supply a postal-invalidation date or a date when this cover ceased to be sold.[1]

The newly supplied reference photograph shows an unaddressed official cover with the crowned Postal Authority emblem and crossed posthorns. Its circular Douglas cancellation is dated 8 January 1975.[3]
