This owned official first day cover bears the 5p, 6p, 7½p and 9p Isle of Man pictorial definitives, SG 21, 23, 25 and 27, issued on 5 July 1973.[1]

The designs are credited to J. Nicholson. Courvoisier printed the stamps by photogravure on unwatermarked granite paper, perforated 11½, in sheets of 50 (5 × 10). The initial printing (a) has thick shiny gum.[1]

The unaddressed envelope has the official map cachet showing the Isle of Man and its sea and air connections. The four stamps are cancelled with the black circular Douglas first-day postmark dated 5 July 1973. The envelope reverse is blank.[2]

The accompanying single-sided information card is shared with the other three official covers in the collection. Its individual descriptions concern the 10p, 20p, 50p and £1 stamps, together with an explanation of the ring-chain border common to the series.[3]

General withdrawal of the stamps was on 31 December 1978. This is a withdrawal-from-sale date, rather than a date of postal invalidation or withdrawal of the physical cover.[1]
