IM-SG-35 is the 2½p stamp in the Isle of Man’s Centenary of Steam Railway issue, released on 4 August 1973. Its design depicts No. 1 Sutherland, dated 1873 in the catalogue description.[1]
Locomotive
Sutherland was built in 1873 by Beyer, Peacock & Company and has a 2-4-0T wheel arrangement.[2]
Design and production
The stamp was designed by J. Nicholson and printed by Harrison and Sons using photogravure. It is multicoloured and perforated 15 × 14. Sheets contained 50 stamps, arranged in five columns and ten rows. The catalogue records cylinder numbers 1A (each ×5).[1]
Sales and withdrawal
Stanley Gibbons records a quantity sold of 617,122 stamps. The stamp was withdrawn from sale on 3 August 1974.[1]
