SG 1 is the 2½d carmine-red Isle of Man regional definitive depicting Queen Elizabeth II, issued on 8 June 1964.[2]

The design is credited to John Hobson Nicholson and the portrait to Dorothy Wilding Ltd.. Harrison and Sons printed the stamps by photogravure. Perforation is 15 × 14, and the sheet format is 240 stamps (12 × 20). The stamp has the Multiple Crowns watermark, consisting of repeated images of St. Edward's Crown.[1]

Stanley Gibbons records 4,298,160 ordinary stamps sold and withdrawal from sale on 31 August 1966.[2]

Although issued as regional stamps, they were initially valid for postage throughout the United Kingdom. This stamp ceased to be valid for postage on 1 March 1972, when Isle of Man SG 1–7 were invalidated alongside other British pre-decimal stamps.[2]
