SG D3a is the listed variety of the 2p red, black and light apple-green Isle of Man postage due stamp, with a positive offset of the red printing on the back.[1]
The underlying stamp, SG D3, belongs to the first Manx postage due series, designed and printed by Questa using lithography. Perforation is 14½ × 13½. The issue was produced in sheets of 100 (10 × 10), with plate numbers 1A and 1B, each ×3. Imprints appear in the right-hand corner of the bottom margin and the left-hand corner of the top margin.[1]
Catalogue identification
The suffix a in D3a identifies the separately listed offset variety. It is distinct from the catalogue's printing reference (a).[1]
For the ordinary D3 stamp, printing (a) is dated 5 July 1973 and printing (b) is dated 1 September 1973. Printing (b) has a letter A added after 1973 at the foot of the stamp; examples are recorded used from mid-August onwards. The supplied entry does not specify which printing produced D3a or give this variety a separate date.[1]
