SG 7 is the 5d royal blue Isle of Man regional definitive depicting Queen Elizabeth II, issued on 4 September 1968.[1]
The illustrated example is the cancelled stamp on the collection’s shield-cachet first day cover, bearing a Douglas first day of issue handstamp dated 4 September 1968.
The stamp has two phosphor bands. Cylinder number 1 is recorded. It was issued on the same date as the 4d olive-sepia stamp, IM-SG-5, and the catalogue lists a first day cover containing both denominations.[1]
The design is credited to John Hobson Nicholson, with the portrait credited to Dorothy Wilding Ltd.. The stamps were printed by Harrison and Sons using photogravure.[1]
The stamp is printed on chalk-surfaced paper without a watermark and is perforated 15 × 14. The sheet format is 240 stamps (12 × 20).[1]
The stamp ceased to be valid for postage on 1 March 1972, under the catalogue’s invalidation statement for Isle of Man SG 1–7.[1]
