Stanley Gibbons lists a first day cover dated 18 August 1958 for the 3d deep lilac Isle of Man regional definitive, catalogue number 2.[1]

The stamp depicts Queen Elizabeth II. The design is credited to John Hobson Nicholson, with the portrait credited to Dorothy Wilding Ltd.. It was printed by Harrison and Sons using photogravure, perforated 15 × 14 and issued in sheets of 240 (12 × 20). The catalogue describes the watermark by reference to type 1b in its Guernsey section.[1]

The cover is held in the collection. It has a multicoloured heraldic cachet and a Douglas machine cancellation dated 18 August 1958. Its producer has not been identified. The standard GPO map-and-Manx-cat cover and a coloured alternative of that GPO cover are recorded separately as wanted covers.

Although issued as regional stamps, these stamps were initially valid for postage throughout the United Kingdom. The stamp on this cover ceased to be valid for postage on 1 March 1972, when Isle of Man SG 1–7 were invalidated alongside other British pre-decimal stamps.[1]
