SG 2 is the 3d deep lilac Isle of Man regional definitive depicting Queen Elizabeth II, issued on 18 August 1958.[2]

The illustrated example is the cancelled stamp on the collection's first day cover, bearing a Douglas machine cancellation dated 18 August 1958.

The design is credited to John Hobson Nicholson and the portrait to Dorothy Wilding Ltd.. Harrison and Sons printed the stamps by photogravure. Perforation is 15 × 14, and the sheet format is 240 stamps (12 × 20). The stamp has the Multiple Crowns watermark, consisting of repeated images of St. Edward's Crown.[1]

This is the ordinary 3d listing. The separately listed chalk-surfaced paper and phosphor-band versions are IM-SG-2a and IM-SG-2p.[2]

Although issued as regional stamps, they were initially valid for postage throughout the United Kingdom. This stamp ceased to be valid for postage on 1 March 1972, when Isle of Man SG 1–7 were invalidated alongside other British pre-decimal stamps.[2]
