Template:Cite Catalogue

From PhantomWiki

This template cites an official stamp catalogue publication, such as a Stanley Gibbons, Scott, Michel or other publisher's catalogue.

Use it when the publication itself has been consulted. A dealer's list or another website quoting catalogue numbers should be cited as that source, rather than as the original catalogue.

Usage

<ref>{{Cite Catalogue
|author=
|title=
|edition=
|volume=
|publisher=
|year=
|section=
|page=
|pages=
|catalogue=
|catalogue-number=
|isbn=
|url=
|access-date=
|notes=
}}</ref>

Parameters

  • author — named author, editor or corporate author, where credited.
  • title — full title shown in the publication.
  • edition — edition designation, such as 31st combined edition.
  • volume — volume or part designation, where applicable.
  • publisher — publisher of the catalogue.
  • year — publication year of the edition consulted.
  • section — country, territory or section containing the relevant entry.
  • page — a single printed page number.
  • pages — a range or list of printed page numbers. Ignored when page is supplied.
  • catalogue — numbering system, such as Stanley Gibbons, Scott or Michel.
  • catalogue-number — number or range recorded in the publication.
  • isbn — ISBN of the edition consulted.
  • url — optional link to an official online edition or publication record.
  • access-date — date on which an online source was consulted.
  • notes — additional details needed to identify or explain the citation.

Enter the title, edition and publication details from the copy actually consulted. Leave unknown details blank.

Catalogue numbers and page numbers are different fields. Do not put a stamp's catalogue number in page or pages.

Numbering status

Record official catalogue numbers exactly as printed, including any publisher-assigned prefixes or suffixes.

Do not add PhantomWiki's provisional P or unverified U markers to the catalogue-number field. Those markers belong to PhantomWiki's working identifiers, not to the publication being cited.

Adding this citation does not automatically rename stamp pages, change their catalogue fields or remove provisional or unverified notices.

Example structure

Replace the illustrative values below with details from the publication consulted:

<ref name="catalogue-entry">{{Cite Catalogue
|title=Full title of the catalogue
|edition=Edition consulted
|publisher=Catalogue publisher
|year=
|section=Isle of Man
|page=
|catalogue=Stanley Gibbons
|catalogue-number=2718–2724
}}</ref>

Reuse the reference elsewhere on the page with:

<ref name="catalogue-entry" />
