The issue celebrates the Chinese New Year and the beginning of the Year of the Tiger. In the Chinese zodiac, the Tiger is the third animal in the twelve-year cycle and is associated with qualities including courage, adventure, passion and leadership. Tigers are also traditionally regarded as guardians of children.[1]

The four stamps were designed by Manx illustrator and artist Ana Jaks. The designs combine different aspects of Tiger mythology with traditional Chinese pottery forms and gold metallic ink. This was Jaks’s first stamp collection.[1]

The stamps were printed by bpost using six-colour offset lithography on 413 True White Litho FSC 110 paper. Each stamp measures 35 × 26.70 mm, is perforated 11.5 per 2 cm and was issued in sheets of twenty.

The official first day cover, reference ABB91, contains all four stamps cancelled with a black circular first-day-of-issue postmark from Douglas dated 13 January 2022. The postmark incorporates the Chinese character 虎, meaning “tiger”. The cover was produced as a limited edition of 2,250 and was supplied with a double-sided information card. The corresponding presentation pack was produced as a separate limited edition of 1,750.[1]

As this issue was released after the final listing in the Stanley Gibbons Channel Islands and Isle of Man 2022 Edition Stamp Catalogue, PhantomWiki uses the provisional identifiers P2725–P2728 for collection organisation. These are locally assigned working numbers and are not confirmed Stanley Gibbons catalogue numbers.
