The three stamps were issued on 1 March 1977 for the Silver Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. The 6p and 25p designs show Queen Elizabeth II; the 7p shows the Queen with Prince Philip. They were designed by A. Larkins and printed by De La Rue using lithography and recess printing, in multicolour. The 7p is perforated 14 × 13 and the other two values 13 × 14.[1]

This cover is wanted for the collection. The photographed example has the 6p and 25p across the top and the 7p below. Its crown-and-1977 handstamp differs from the Douglas cypher handstamp. The town name is obscured by the stamps and has not been confirmed.[2]

Production and sales details

The stamps were printed in sheets of 50, in two panes of 5 × 5. The imprint is in the right-hand corner of the bottom margin. For the 6p and 7p values, the catalogue lists: 1A (each × 6), 1A (each × 5)–2A; 1B (each × 6), 1B (each × 5)–2B; 1C (each × 6), 1C (each × 5)–2C; 1D (each × 6), 1D (each × 5)–2D. For the 25p, it lists 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D (each × 6).[1]

Catalogue quantities sold were 942,356 of the 6p, 911,191 of the 7p and 651,101 of the 25p. These are sales of the individual stamps, not quantities of covers. The stamps were withdrawn from sale on 28 February 1978.[1]
