SG74 is the 13p stamp in the Isle of Man Christmas and Bicentenary of Manx Bible issue, released on 29 October 1975.[1]

Design

The design shows a shipwreck scene with John Kelly holding a manuscript above the water. The information sheet identifies this as part of the Old Testament translation being carried to the printers at Whitehaven. It recounts how the manuscript survived a wreck off the Cumberland coast.[2]

The illustration is a cancelled detail from the collector’s Isle of Man – Christmas and Bicentenary of Manx Bible – Official cover – 1975.[3]

Production

The catalogue credits J. Nicholson as designer and Questa as printer, with multicoloured stamps printed by lithography and perforated 14.[1]

The official information sheet supplies the fuller credits J. H. Nicholson, R.I. and Questa Colour Security Printers Ltd. It specifies four colours, white paper with PVA gum, and perforation 14 per 2 cm. Its printed dimensions of 1.0079 × 1.5148 inches convert to approximately 25.60 × 38.48 mm; the order follows the sheet without assigning width and height labels.[2]

Both sources give sheets of 50, comprising two panes of 25 arranged 5 × 5.[1][2]

The catalogue lists plate numbers 1A, 1B, 1C and 1D, each ×4. These are catalogue production records, not plate markings identified on the individual stamps shown here.[1]

Sales and withdrawal

The catalogue records 402,463 stamps sold for this denomination. Withdrawal from sale was on 28 October 1976. These are stamp-sales figures and dates, not first day cover sales or postal-invalidation information.[1]
