IM-SG-43 is the 3½p stamp from the Isle of Man's 150th Anniversary of Royal National Lifeboat Institution issue, released on 4 March 1974. The design depicts the wreck of the St George, 1830.[1]

Design

The stamp adapts an oil painting in the Manx Museum showing the Royal Mail steam packet St George wrecked at Conister Rocks, Douglas Bay, on 20 November 1830.[2]

Sir William Hillary participated in the rescue of all 22 people aboard the vessel.[3]

Production details

The stamp was designed by J. Nicholson and printed by Courvoisier using photogravure. It is multicoloured, printed on granite paper, with perforation 11½. Sheets contained 100 stamps, arranged in 10 columns and 10 rows.[1]

Sales and withdrawal

The catalogue records 849,990 sold for this 3½p stamp. It was withdrawn from sale on 3 March 1975.[1]
