This £2 entry is part of the Landmarks and Queen Elizabeth II definitive series.[1]
Subject
The official information sheet says that the portrait is based on a photograph taken during the Queen’s 1979 Tynwald Day visit, when she also opened Queen Elizabeth II High School at Peel. It identifies the frame as a Norse ring-chain pattern found on old Manx monuments.[2]
Production details
The official sheet credits G. V. H. Kneale as designer and Helio Courvoisier SA, Switzerland, as printer. It specifies photogravure, four colours, 41.1 × 51.5 mm stamps in sheets of 25, and tropical gumming with coloured silk fibres. It does not explicitly state a watermark status.[2][1]
The catalogue gives perforation 11½.[1] The information sheet gives 11¾ × 11½.[2] SG normally reports perforations to the nearest half and uses the Instanta gauge as its standard. These source readings are retained separately; their difference alone does not establish an additional catalogue variety.[3]
Sheets, plates and imprints
