SG54 is the 3½p stamp from the Isle of Man's Birth Centenary of Sir Winston Churchill issue, released on 22 November 1974. The catalogue describes its subject as Churchill and Bugler Dunne at Colenso, 1899.[1]

Design and production

G. Kneale designed the stamp. Courvoisier printed it by photogravure on granite paper. It is multicoloured and perforated 11½. Sheets contain 25 stamps, arranged in five columns and five rows.[1]

The design also appears in IM-SG-MS58, the four-stamp miniature sheet issued with the set.[1]

Sales and withdrawal

Stanley Gibbons records a quantity sold of 916,748 for the 3½p stamp and withdrawal from sale on 21 November 1975. The miniature sheet has a separate catalogue sales figure.[1]

First day covers

A first day cover is listed in the catalogue. The associated cover records include Official, Mercury and Cotswold covers bearing either the four separate stamps or the miniature sheet, and a Fleetwood cover bearing SG54 alone.[1]
