IM-SG-51 is the 4½p stamp from the Isle of Man’s Historical Anniversaries issue, released on 18 September 1974. The catalogue describes the design as Magnus Haraldson rowing King Edgar on the Dee.[1]

Design and production

The stamp was designed by J. Nicholson from ideas by G. Kneale and printed by John Waddington using lithography. It is multicoloured and perforated 14.[1]

Sheets contained 50 stamps, comprising two panes of 25 arranged 5 × 5. The catalogue records plate numbers 1A, 1B, 1C and 1D, each ×4. Imprints appear in the right-hand corner of the bottom margin and the left-hand corner of the top margin.[1]

Sales and withdrawal

Stanley Gibbons records 1,025,044 stamps sold. The stamp was withdrawn from sale on 17 September 1975.[1]
