SG D2 is the 1p red, black and cinnamon stamp in the first Isle of Man postage due series. The catalogue records two printings, beginning with printing (a) on 5 July 1973.[1]

Questa designed and printed the issue using lithography. Perforation is 14½ × 13½. Sheets contained 100 stamps (10 × 10), with imprints in the right-hand corner of the bottom margin and the left-hand corner of the top margin. The plate numbers were 1A and 1B, each ×3.[1]

Catalogue printings

Printing Catalogue date Identification
(a) 5 July 1973 No letter A added after 1973 at the foot of the stamp
(b) 1 September 1973 Letter A added after 1973 at the foot of the stamp

The catalogue records examples of printing (b) used from mid-August 1973 onwards, earlier than its listed date of 1 September. The printing letters are catalogue reference codes, not suffixes to SG D2.[1]

Sold out

For printing (a), the catalogue gives a series-level sold-out range of 13 August to 10 September 1973, without a separate date for this denomination. Printing (b) of the 1p value had sold out by February 1975. These statements do not establish formal withdrawal from sale or invalidation for postage.[1]
