SG 12 is the ½p Castletown stamp in the Isle of Man pictorial definitive series, first issued on 5 July 1973.[1]
The design is credited to J. Nicholson. Courvoisier printed the stamp by photogravure in multiple colours on granite paper without a watermark. Perforation is 11½, and sheets contain 50 stamps (5 × 10).[1]
Catalogue printings
The catalogue records the following printings.[1]
| Catalogue printing | Date | Gum | Inscribed year |
|---|---|---|---|
| (a) | 5 July 1973 | Thick shiny gum | 1973 |
| (b) | 1 November 1973 | Matt, almost invisible gum | 1973 |
These printing letters are reference codes within the catalogue. They do not create additional SG-numbered variants. The inscribed year is not necessarily the year of printing.
Withdrawal
The catalogue records general withdrawal of the issue on 31 December 1978. The ½p value in booklets remained on sale until 15 May 1979. These are withdrawal-from-sale dates; the cited entry does not give a date of postal invalidation.[1]
