IM-SG-44 is the 8p stamp from the Isle of Man's 150th Anniversary of Royal National Lifeboat Institution issue, released on 4 March 1974. The design depicts the Manchester & Salford lifeboat, 1868–1887.[1]

Design

The stamp shows the lifeboat with the Tower of Refuge. Sunday School children in Manchester and Salford funded the boat.[2]

The lifeboat served at Douglas from 1868 to 1887 and is recorded in the station's fleet list as Manchester and Salford Sunday Schools.[3]

Production details

The stamp was designed by J. Nicholson and printed by Courvoisier using photogravure. It is multicoloured, printed on granite paper, with perforation 11½. Sheets contained 100 stamps, arranged in 10 columns and 10 rows.[1]

Sales and withdrawal

The catalogue records 374,941 sold for this 8p stamp. It was withdrawn from sale on 3 March 1975.[1]
