SG 1 is the 2½d carmine-red Isle of Man regional definitive depicting Queen Elizabeth II, issued on 8 June 1964.[1]
The design is credited to John Hobson Nicholson and the portrait to Dorothy Wilding Ltd.. Harrison and Sons printed the stamps by photogravure. Perforation is 15 × 14, and the sheet format is 240 stamps (12 × 20). The watermark is cross-referenced in the catalogue to the Guernsey type 1b illustration.[1]
Stanley Gibbons records 4,298,160 ordinary stamps sold and a withdrawal date of 31 August 1966.[1]
These regional stamps were initially valid for postage throughout the United Kingdom. Stanley Gibbons records the invalidation of Isle of Man SG 1–7 from 1 March 1972, alongside other British pre-decimal stamps.[1]
